The quality of the continuous casting billet is related to the cast steel grade, casting process, shape, cross section, and operating conditions. During the solidification process, it is prone to cracks due to mechanical stress and temperature stress such as cooling, bending, stretching and straightening. There was even a steel breakout accident.

Crack defects are divided into surface and corner cracks, surface and corner transverse cracks. 1. Crack-sensitive steel; 2. Excessive drawing speed; 3. Excessive molten steel temperature can cause leakage.

Splitting, corner cracking, longitudinal cracking, sticking steel, and shaking are common continuous casting slab defects in billet continuous casting. The main reason for this is the inside of the copper tube of the mold. The prevention of steel cracking and steel leakage is mainly placed on secondary cooling, and it is necessary to ensure that the mold copper tube is cooled sufficiently and evenly. The off-square is caused by the deformation, taper or fillet design of the copper tube of the mold. The internal cooling of the mold copper tube and the uneven growth of the blank shell thickness cause uneven shrinkage of the blank shell.

The uneven cooling in the copper tube of the mold is mainly caused by the following factors:

1. Deformation of the mold copper tube;

2. The inner surface is not smooth enough;

3. The taper and fillet are inappropriate;

4. Selection of protective slag;

5. Uneven cooling water gap;

6. The foot roller is not adjusted properly, etc.
