How Many Types of Graphite Electrode do you know? (The most complete ever)

Do you know how many types of graphite electrode in market? In this article, you will get a whole picture of this part knowledge.

(1) Natural graphite electrode.
Natural graphite electrodes are electrodes produced using natural flake graphite as a raw material. The natural graphite electrode can be prepared by adding coal pitch to natural graphite, after kneading, molding, baking and machining. Its resistivity is relatively high, generally 15-20u · m. The biggest disadvantage of natural graphite electrode is its low mechanical strength. It is easy to break in the actual use process. Therefore, there are only a small number of small-sized natural graphite electrodes in China for some special occasions.

(2) Artificial graphite electrode.
Using petroleum coke or pitch coke as solid aggregate and coal tar as binder, artificial graphite electrodes (graphite electrodes for short) can be prepared through kneading, molding, firing, graphitization and machining. Artificial graphite electrode belongs to high temperature resistant graphite conductive material. According to the choice of raw materials and production processes, graphite electrodes with different physical and chemical properties can be prepared and divided into ordinary power graphite electrodes, high power graphite electrodes and ultra high power graphite electrodes. The carbon material enterprises that mainly produce graphite electrodes constitute the metallurgical carbon material industry.

(3) Graphite electrode with anti-oxidation coating.

The graphite electrode with anti-oxidation coating adopts the "alternative spraying and one melting method" or "solution impregnation method" to form an anti-oxidation coating on the surface of the processed graphite electrode to reduce the oxidation consumption of the graphite electrode. Because the coating increases the price of graphite electrodes and there are some problems in its use, there is currently no widespread promotion of the use of oxidation-resistant graphite electrodes in China.

(4) Water-cooled composite graphite electrode.
The water-cooled composite graphite electrode is a conductive electrode used after the graphite electrode is joined to a special steel pipe. The upper double-layer steel pipe is cooled by water inside, and the lower graphite electrode is connected to the steel pipe through a water-cooled metal joint. The electrode holder is located on the steel pipe. This greatly reduces the external surface area of the graphite electrode exposed to the air, thereby reducing the oxidation consumption of the electrode. However, due to the troublesome operation of connecting the electrodes and affecting the production efficiency of the electric furnace, China has not yet adopted such water-cooled composites. Graphite electrode.

(5) Hollow graphite electrode.
Hollow graphite electrodes are hollow electrodes. The preparation of this product is directly pressed into a hollow tube when the electrode is formed or drilled in the center of the electrode during processing. The other production processes are the same as the ordinary graphite electrode process. The production of hollow graphite electrodes can save carbon raw materials and reduce the weight of hoisting graphite electrodes. By using the hollow passages of graphite electrodes, alloy materials and other materials required for steelmaking can be added or the required gases can be passed in. However, the hollow graphite electrode has a complicated forming process, limited raw material savings, and low production yield, so the hollow graphite electrode has not been widely used.

(6) Regenerated graphite electrode.
The recycled graphite electrode is prepared by using recycled artificial graphite scraps and powders as raw materials, adding coal pitch, and kneading, molding, baking and machining. Compared with coke-based graphite electrodes, its resistivity is relatively large and its performance indicators are poor. At present, only a small number of small-sized recycled graphite electrode products are used in the field of refractory production.
